REPORTS

A biblical call to train a child while he is young

Train him to be a user and not an abuser

It is reported that one Muslim had said:

"If you want me to influence someone to Islamic Faith, give him to me when he is seven years old. Than a Communist said, no no, seven years old is too late, give him to me when he is three years old to make him a Communist and you will have difficulty to change him from Communism."

I realized how true the Bible is, which instructs us to train our children in the way they should go while they are young, and they will not depart from it when they are old [Proverbs 22:6].

For that very reason I resolved to report that at Monte Christo Baptist Church, we are fully pre-occupied with evangelism. We evangelize even to children, bringing them to Christ while they are young. We introduce them to a Reformed Faith and Evangelical Christianity. We reshape their mind with biblical teachings and resettle their heart by pointing them to the God of hope.

Most of our churches have children, who have been blessings to us. Monte Christo has been served better by those who were converted while they were young. Just as it is a difficult thing to teach old dog new tricks, so is it difficult to teach an older person a reformed faith, and biblical renewed mind set. It requires time, patient and enough grace to help an old person to see the light.

The doctrine of reformation which is the major tool in developing new mind set in a non reformed world –till we are all transformed by the renewal of that new mind set; is a hard and an unloved doctrine.

If there is anything we want you to pray for on our behalf brethrens, it is spiritual reawakening, under biblical mind reshaped. We need to be a people who look at the time in the context of eternity, and what to do with the time. The Bible says:

"Making the best use of the time, because the days are evil" [Ephesians 5:16] ESV, or as KJV put it:

"Redeeming the time, because the days are evil"

We need another generation like that of the tribe of Issachar, whom the Bible has told us about in 1 Chronicles 12:32 were we reads:

"And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, men who know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethrens were at their commandment."

We need to know both the time and the need in relation to God and to men. We need to know our subject and the audience entrusted in our hands. True Christian Ministry, true Christian Mission and true Christian Message must focus on elderly people to prepare them to die well. It must focus on young people to prepare them to live well, and it must focus on little children to prepare them to face the future – if we still believe that children are the leaders of tomorrow.

Reformation is vital in life, and is to the highest degree needed for faith and practice. It does give people a Christian world view and biblical new mind set. If you knew in which condition Germany was before Martin Luther nailed the ninety–five theses on the door of Wittenberg church, with a purpose to challenge the thinking of the people of his days; than you would realize how important reformation is, and what biblical mind set is all about.

Reformation has not much to do with what one says about himself or other things, it is the fruit of a new mind-set resulted from biblical understanding. It gives people a born again generation, who comes with a new hope to prepare a better future. In the case of Dr. Martin Luther, Protestant Reformation was born in Germany, and the doctrine of justification by faith was introduced, tested and loved all over Europe.

I do not have time to tell you the reason why Germany speaking people are so strong up to this day, they have developed a strong mind set, which was born and brought up as a result of Protestant Reformation. Germany is one of the nations which are ahead of others with hard workers at heart. Wherever you find them, they are job creators and not job seekers. If you want strong watches, and unwavering shoes etc, just go to any German Shop, you will get genuine and lasting things.

Before reformation Germans were very lazy people, illiterate and good for nothing, but now; to God be the glory, for Martin Luther was born and reborn with a new and biblical mind-set. Germany and the world beyond its border are eating the fruits of that reformation up to now, though not many who are born again presently – read history for your own interest.

When I read history in biblical, theological and logical order, one can no longer tell me that Namibian people are poor, illiterate and good for nothing. This is why we have to put up Mission Stations all over Namibia. Our purpose is to help our people, and specially children, to understand one thing, namely; God’s will for their lives, under the same teachings. We labor to uphold information that brings reformation which leads to the continual transformation by the renewal of biblical minds-set, until they are able to determine what really God's will is, what is proper, pleasing and perfect.

First, the need of salvation especially for children is needed and compulsory in this matter. Although this is very important truth, there is another vital and very important truth, greater than that, and that is; the understanding of our former position in Adam and our new and present position in Jesus Christ. In order to live a vivacious life of faith, our people have and need to understand Colossians 1:12-14, where Paul tells us that, we have to and must be:

"Always giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light: who has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins"

The very vital and important truth here is that, we are qualified by God, even though other people may disqualify us. God has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son. Every true Christian must know that, he is no longer the person he use to be, there is a change of mind in him and a change of heart. He is now a new creature with a new position and a new hope.

Second, the growth in grace and in the knowledge of the Son of God is necessary. Our people, especially young Christians must learn that faith without work is dead [James 2:17]. God did not deliver us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son to remain fruitless. Wherever we are and whatever we do, we must now that, God did not save us and call us to be fruitless, but He called us to be fruitful. The Bible says in Genesis 1:28

"And God blessed them, and God said unto them, be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moved upon the earth." While in Colossians 1:10 we read:

"That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God"

True biblical teaching is an information giving, reformation and transformation bringing. It upholds a faith and its works. Remember we are saved by grace through faith, but called to be fruitful in every good work.

Third, knowing and maintaining the truth in the context of God-given time is a noteworthy. We must learn that fruits are not gifts, neither gifts are important and vital than fruits, the subject of gifts have overtaken and impressed many non reformed Christians in the world. They do not understand yet at all, that, 1 Corinthians chapter 12 and chapter 14 are bound together by chapter 13. While chapter 12 is dealing with the different type of gifts given to true Christians, chapter 14 is telling us how to use those gifts, and chapter 13 is than balancing them with fruits.

Just as faith without work is dead [James 2:17], gift without fruit is useless. For, by their fruit you will know them [Matthew 7:16a]. False prophets mentioned in Matthew 7:15-20, and false professional of faith mentioned in 7:21-23, and false pastor or spiritual builder mentioned in 7:24-29, will not be identified by their gifts. They can produce counter gifts as you see in Matthew 7:22-23, and Revelation 13:13-18 etc. There is only one thing they cannot reproduce, and that is fruits, fruits are unforgeable. This is why Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13:1–13;

"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels [gift], but have not love [fruit], I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers [gift], and understand all mysteries and all knowledge [gifts], and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains [gift], but have not love [fruit], I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned [gift], but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love [fruit] is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.

Love [fruit] never ends. As for prophecies [gifts], they will pass away; as for tongues [gifts], they will cease; as for knowledge [gifts], it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child; I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love."

You must never forget that, the fruits of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patient, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such thing [Galatians 5:22-23.

Fourth, our people must be informed, that, what helps the Devil to win is to have Christians among us who are fruitless. If we have Christians who adopt the mentality of being quit even at the right times, helps Satan to proceed with evil. If we have Christians who have learned to say nothing in any situation and do nothing even when Christianity faces risks and at the stake, makes the Devil happy.

As long as Christian Churches goes about business as usual, answering questions people never asked, and debate about issues no longer relevant to our time and context. As long as we are being separated by non essential issues to salvation, issues like head covering, eating pocks and cross-cultural marriages etc. As long as we leave:

Children un-evangelized
Young people unarmed in this hot and life demanding time
Elderly people unprepared to die peacefully and rest leaned on God.

The Devil will never be disturbed.
